单一品种，生活在雪线附近的中等体型雉类(35厘米)，雌雄外型相似，不迁徙，见于高山岩石地、高山短草地、以及较低灌丛地的山坡，一般成对或小群出现。
Only 1 species, medium-sized Partridge (35 cm) that live near snow line, sexes very similar, non-migratory, found at highland slopes with rocks or short grasses, also at lower slopes with scrubs, often in pair or in small party.
1. (1) 雪鹑 Snow Partridge Lerwa lerwa 35 cm LC
a.中等体型，生活在雪线附近，不迁徙，见于高山岩石地、高山短草地、以及较低灌丛地的山坡，最高海拔5500米，严冬时可低至2100米，中国中南部种群多在海拔3800米以上。一般成对或小群出现。
Medium-sized, live near snow line, non-migratory, found at highland slopes with rocks or short grasses, also at lower slopes with scrubs, up to 5500m, down to 2100m in severe winter, usually above 3800m in SC China, often in pairs or in small parties.
b.雄性：体型明显较雪鸡细，面上或上体无大白斑，嘴红色，上体具幼纹。
Male: significantly smaller than Snowcocks, no large white patch on face and underparts, red bill and finely barred upperparts.
c.雌性：似雄鸟但体型较细小，但脚部无距(雄性有一、两只距，不易察看)，繁殖时嘴没有雄性的鲜红。
Female: like male, slightly smaller, lacks spur on legs (male has 1-2 spurs that are difficult to see), bill duller than male in breeding season.
d.幼鸟：头和颈具斑点，并无幼纹。
Juvenile: spotted rather than barred head and neck.
e.声音：极高音(7千赫) 2秒轻声的“诗”；警告声是一串快速的“出出出….“，1-2秒后多次重复。
Voice: long (2s), light and very high-pitched (7kHz) “see“. Alarm call a quick series of “tir tir tir ….”, repeated in 1-2 second many times.
f.3亚种全在国内有纪录；
lerwa： 西藏南部；尾上黑斑比白斑要宽，下体较深色。
major： 四川西部及云南南部；不好分，上体较棕色，下体较淡色，尾上黑斑白斑宽度大致相等、白斑内有小黑点。
callipygia： 四川北部及甘肃南部；似major，尾上黑斑比白斑要窄。
All 3 subspecies in China:
lerwa S Xizang. Black bars thicker than white bars on tail, darker underparts.
major W Sichuan and N Yunnan, no obvious difference. Upperparts more rufous, underparts paler. On tail: black bars about same thickness as white bars on tail, tiny spots on white bars.
callipygia N Sichuan and S Gansu. Similar to major, black bars thinner than white bars on tail.
g.近年西藏西南部、云南、甘肃、及四川西部都没有纪录；四川卧龙巴朗山、绵阳雪宝顶是好地点，不难找。
No recent record from SW Xizang, Yunnan, Gansu, and W Sichuan. Balangshan, Wolong and Xuebaodin, Minjang in Szechuan are good sites. Not difficult to find.
