On 1/5/07, we found a Chinese Goshawk trapped by a self-made trap which seems to be designed for capture other small animals. We released it immediately and we don't know whether it was injuried or not. But it could fly normally and looked very tired.

1/5/07 發現一隻赤腹鷹給一個看來是自製來捉小動物的陷阱困住,我們馬上將鷹放走,牠可以正常地飛,似乎很累,不知道有沒有受傷。

Well done Sammy and Winnie - a horrible story with a happy ending. Did you report the trap?

Suggest to list the location for relevant govt department to follow up. It could help to save more birds from illegal trapping.

Thanks,

Captain

We released it together with our best bird-watcher friends. I will report to AFCD. ops: Thanks!

I think this is the Po Toi bird, it doesn't say so in English but I recognise the bird.

Yes, well done for releasing it. But it isn't an illegal trap, its an old fishing pot which has been left from the days when over 1000 people lived on the island. There are many of them lying around on Po Toi, I sometimes find small birds in them and release them, not much else you can do.

Actually there was something wrong with this bird. It kept crawling around on the ground, which is why it got caught in the pot. Regrettably, I think it has since died.

Geoff, you are right. It's a Po Toi bird. Thank you that you provide information about the pot. Yeah, I also think that it was a fishing pot now.

We still saw it that day after it flew away. Just hope that it can survive.

Attached photos were taken after it flew away.

I hope it survived also. It looks in better condition in your photos, which are really excellent.
