Recently, we have an illegal case of stealing chicks' of Yellow-crested Cuckatoo from nest in Hong Kong. On the other hand, the Indonesian police just caught people smuggling Yellow-crested Cuckatoo in plastic bottles. This species of cuckatoo is listed as Critically Endangered in the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List due to rapid population decline caused by extreme demand in pet trade. It is also listed in Appendix I of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) which does not allow international trading of the species. We hope that the awareness of protecting this cuckatoo and other threatened species can be raised, so as to avoid fuelling the trade which further pushes the species to extinction.
