I had considered the possibility of this being a crested honey buzzard, and would be grateful if someone could say something about the criteria used here.  In the first picture, the wings seem very long and slim for an Accipiter, and in the third picture, it seems to fit Viney et al’s description ‘protruding pigeon-like head’ very well and the underwing pattern looks very similar too.

I’m not challenging the ID but would like to improve my identification skills and wondered if someone could explain what diagnostic features can be used to rule out a crested honey buzzard here.

There are a number of differences in size, wing-shape, plumage, tail pattern...

Best to look at a number of photographs of both species in flight to check out the differences.
