Alright there - not a bird I'm afraid, my camera isn't quite good enough to compete with other shots onthe website.
Do any oologists out there have any idea what bird laid this egg? It's about 35mm long and maybe 25-30mm across (in comparison with the pen top in the picture).
I suspect it originates from a fairly common bird species in HK. It was found in fish pond habitat near to the Kam Tin River and had been cracked open by another bird as opposed to a chick hatching from it.
Any help much appreciated. Author: sdavid Time: 11/05/2007 13:53
Sorry - I can't seem to reduce the file size of the picture!
Does anyone have any tips on how to reduce the size of the picture, I'm afraid I'm not much of a graphics bod!
Just for information, the egg is off-white with light brown speckles across much of the surface, these being more concentratared a the base. Though a photo would be more use. Author: ajohn Time: 11/05/2007 14:33
My guess would be White-breasted Waterhen. I seem to remember these are white with reddish speckles. Author: sdavid Time: 11/05/2007 14:54
Thanks John
That sounds about the right size of bird and right habitat.
