As Geoff Welch is stepping down from his dual role as Secretary to the Records Committee and co-Editor of the HKBR, we are looking for one or more persons to take up these voluntary tasks that Geoff has so ably performed in recent years. While Geoff has carried out this work unaided, the duties could be split between two or even more people. The tasks involved in each role are broadly as follows:
RC Secretary
Attend all meetings (usually 4 a year), produce the minutes and carry out necessary document / photograph preparation beforehand.
Collect from observers those records requiring assessment and circulate these around the RC. Follow up with RC Members to ensure reviews are carried out as speedily as possible.
Keep a watch of the HKBWS website the download relevant records (rarities and non-rarities) that might not otherwise be submitted. Follow up on individual records, where appropriate.
Liaise with RC Chairman to ensure the committee functions efficiently and effectively.
HKBR co-Editor
Collect records of non-rarities and collate them into a format suitable for preparation of the Systematic List.
Supervise preparation of and/or write some part of the Systematic List, ensuring species accounts are both accurate and relevant to the existing format.
Review and edit other papers, as appropriate.
Help in other aspects of production, when required.
As far as the HKBR is concerned, we prefer somebody who is potentially interested in taking a lead role in the editorship in the future, should the current co-Editor John Allcock decide to step down. Ideally, it would also be somebody who can write at least some of the species accounts (though this is not essential). In the coming weeks I will try to find other volunteers willing to take on specific tasks to reduce the workload. Geoff is stepping down at the end of this year, with his final HKBR being that for 2015.
So, if you're interested in any of the above duties, whether it's acting as RC Secretary or simply writing a part of the Systematic List, please get in touch with me, via my email or private message. If you have any questions that you think others may also have, please ask below, and either I or Geoff Welch will try to help.
Hope Mr. Welch will take up a leading role in the preparation of a new "The Avifauna of HK".

Thanks Ho Fai, I was not aware that a new version was being planned.
My intention is to reduce my workload but I'm always willing to help a little for this kind of project.
Also, anyone interested in helping to produce the HK Bird Report, please send me a PM or an email. Author: HFCheung Time: 26/04/2016 10:09
The last Avifauna of HK contains information up to 1998, so it would be almost 20 years without an update. I hope the HKBWS Executive Committee will discuss this issue and give it a push. We just read from the words of our founding members the prime reason that HKBWS was formed some 60 years ago was to keep track of the bird community of HK.
