Unusually, this individual looks like the subspecies pandoo. Most blue rock thrush in HK are philippensis, which is reddish underneath (in the male).

It is interesting that this bird seems to show a few red feathers in the undertail. I wonder if this is evidence of some philippensis genes being present?

All of the male Blue Rock Thrush on Po Toi over the past year have been philippensis except for one pandoo which over-wintered and left quite early in spring. I presume this is the same bird although I don't recognise the location of this photo, it doesn't look like the SE Peninsular where the bird was.
