The Rufous-gorgeted flycatcher was still around this morning 1/1 but only one was spotted.
An adult male Siberian Thrush was also spotted this morning in the same area.
Unfortunately, The Japanese Robin did not appear..... Author: lpaul Time: 2/01/2018 12:19
Great photo of the thrush which based on black plumage and lack of white on the belly is the Japanese/S Sakhalin taxon davisoni which I think is the first recorded in HK (females and non-adult males are rather tricky to ID to taxon I believe). Author: Tom_Li Time: 2/01/2018 14:14
Thanks Paul for the subspecies ID. I agree as this individual also had far less white on undertail-coverts and tail than the nominate subspecies.

Delighted to see this Siberian Thrush (especially great pix of this new race for HK) added to the other good birds here - its starting to feel a lot like the winter of 1994/95 when all three species were found, along with Fujian Niltava, Slaty-backed Forktail and Vivid Niltava (although the latter was not accepted).
Cheers
