The key location 大路池
34°03'12.8"N 139°31'38.7"E
April is a good time to visit. I just tried the trail (NOT the dirt road) between the parking bay on main road and 迷子椎 (an old giant oak tree). So walked clockwise. Japanese Robins were vocal and some made response to playback. Izu Thrushes and Ijima Warbler were common as well.
I took flight from 調布飛行場 (Chofu airport, Tokyo; three flights a day, around HK$1200 one way - 45 mins, only 5kg luggage free; my additional 10kg luggage values extra $300).
The return trip from Miyakejima to Tokyo was by ferry. Sighting of seabirds were poor. Only 2 black-footed albatross and 1 short tailed Albatross, plus hundreds of streaked shearwaters). Looks like Jan-Feb is much better in terms of seabirds.
I stayed at Snapper. https://www.booking.com/hotel/jp ... -gb.html?aid=356980;label=gog235jc-1BCAsodUISbWl5YWtlamltYS1zbmFwcGVySDNYA2hiiAEBmAEwuAEGyAEM2AEB6AEBiAIBqAIDuALutI7nBcACAQ;sid=e0f63920a51092c004603591f3292377;lang=en-gb;room1=A%2CA;sb_price_type=total;soz=1;type=total&
The host speaks some English but can communicate well with english translation app. Car rental is available (about 5000 yen for 2 days)
Dip of the trip
Japanese Night Heron. The host knew the location and I tried several times but in vain. Probably too early. It is better to check with him about the latest update if u stay at Snapper.
