This looks more a Eurasian Wigeon x American Wigeon hybrid.

Dear Bart, I came across this blog http://gobirdingeu.blogspot.com/2012/12/variation-in-wigeons.html and suggested that birds like this are variant but pure Eurasian Wigeon, though it can’t be excluded the possibility that birds with American Wigeon ancestors (but not first generation hybrids) might look like this too.

Yes, you're right!

I saw such Wigeons at Mai Po as well, and I thought about your record. Agree that they're most probably just pure Eurasian Wigeons.
