The 2007 subscription renewal forms will be mailed to HKBWS members in 2 weeks.
Please complete the form and return it to the Office. We will start processing the renewal applications in mid December.
New membership cards will be dispatched within one month after we receive the forms.
To save the trouble of making renewals each year, you may choose to renew the subscription for the coming 5 years in one go at 2007 rates.
The renewal forms can also be downloaded at below.
To help, you can apply for an AFCD Mai Po Entry Permit by writing to to them;
* enclosing a photocopy of your HKID card,
* attaching proof that you are a keen birdwatcher, such as a photocopy of your HKBWS memebrship card,
* and giving the date when you want to visit Mai Po, usually for the next 12-months if you are living in Hong Kong and want to visit Mai Po frequently.
To have access to the facilities inside Mai Po Nature Reserve, such as the birdwatching hides and boardwalks, you need to join as a member of WWF Hng Kong (see WWF's website for membership details, http://www.wwf.org.hk)
For the boardwalk, this is usually arranged by Ms. Silvia Yeung, one of the WWF staff at Mai Po. Her phone number is 2471-6306 and fax number is 2482-0369. You need to send (or fax) her a copy of your HKID card, HKBWS membership card, and WWF membership card. It takes the Border Police about 1-month to process so please apply for the permit well in advance of when you need it. There is a $100 handling fee for this permit but all the money goes toward the maintenance cost of the floating boardwalks and floating hides.
I hope this help but if you need any more information, then please contact Silvia Yeung or myself at Mai Po.
I have similar problem. My permit will be expired on 7/1. I faxed my application with WWF membership card and HKBWS membership card to AFCD. The officer replied that I should submit my application in Jan. And, she also reminded me to provide a HKBWS members card with day of expired information. If HKBWS will start the renew procedure at the mid of Dec. and takes about a month to finish the job. Then I cannot enter Mei Po for almost a month..... My wife (non birder) and I are intending to visit Hong Kong late March/early April. I think (!) I'm being let off for one day for birding (!) and obviously would like to get to Mai Po (and possibly Tai po Kau....are both do-able in a day?). I have sent off for my HKBWS membership and about to join up to WWF via its online service.
However reading the above, do I have to provide my passport details to AFCD as obviously I don't have HK i.d
Many thanks

sneil ,
for one day visit to maipo u may contact WWF for a one day pass :
If you need to renew your Mai Po Permit in early January 2007, you may make a note on the renewal form.
We will send out the receipt within 2 to 3 weeks so that you may use it to apply to AFCD. The membership card will be mailed to you later"

May I suggest that a SCAN copy of the official receipt can be email to the members so that they can start processing the AFCD permit without waiting for the "physical" reciept.
That will be especially helpful, like me, who live in an internet world and travelling around, without waiting for the post delivery ( a.k.a. Snail Mail).

My Mai Po permit expires on January 11th. I have renewed my HKBWS membership but have yet to receive a receipt. Have the receipts been issued, and if not will they be issued soon?

Unfortunately, mine hasn't.....so getting a bit anxious about the AFCD and closed border permit process for Mai Po for which, as I understand it, I need to furnish details of my HKBWS membership....and I also understand that AFCD can take a month to process, perhaps a bit longer as I'm resident in UK.
Oh, well!! Author: BWA Time: 6/01/2007 22:05
Dear Neil,
You receipt has been sent through surface mail in mid December. I believe it would reach you in 1 to 2 weeks.
