A quick look at the literature suggests that the breadth and well-defined nature of the eye-line on these birds may mean they are both immatures (i.e. fledged this year).
This is said to be the world's smallest duck; one to get the local press onto perhaps ("World's smallest duck visits Mai Po for first time in 30 years").

Mine photos with my 20D were no good, they were really too far away. So it seems like Digiscoping was the best solution! and thanks to Carmen for letting us look through your telescope today by the way! it was much better then looking through my binoculars...=P
