Some of the highlights from regular visits to Kam Tin over the last couple of weeks:
Purple Heron - 1 juvenile on 5th Nov
Black-faced Spoonbill - 7 feeding on a drained fishpond at Sha Po on 6th
Common Teal - Up to 21 (on 6th)
Buttonquail sp. - 1 on 6th (probably yellow-legged)
Greater Painted-snipe - Maximum count of 13 on 16th, but several other small groups scattered throughout area
Grey-headed Lapwing - 23 birds now present
Pacific Golden Plover - 1 individual on 6th and 14th
Little Ringed Plover - 54 on 6th
Common Greenshank - Up to 5 at Sha Po/in the Buffalo Fields
Temminck's Stint - 1 on 11th
Wood Sandpiper - 145 on 11th
Woodcock - 2 on 16th
Greater Spotted Eagle - 1 on 9th and 1 on 11th
Imperial Eagle - 1 on 11th
Bonelli's Eagle - 1 displaying on 11th
Besra - 1 on 10th, another on 11th
Eurasian Collared Dove - 1 on 5th
Red-rumped Swallow - Up to 5 since 9th, circling over village and around nests
White Wagtail ocularis - Maximum count of 11
Red-throated Pipit - Up to 27 (on 9th)
Bull-headed Shrike - 1 male on 13th
Siberian Rubythroat - Max count 8
Red-throated Flycatcher - At least 3 birds in the area
Bright-capped Cisticola - 2 on 6th (also 4 Zitting and 2 unidentified cisticolas)
Black-browed Reed Warbler - 1 on 12th
White-shouldered Starling - Up to 10
Hair-crested Drongo - 3 on 7th, 1 on 16th
Yellow-billed Grosbeak - Maximum of only 5 (on 12th)
Chestnut-eared Bunting - 1 on 6th
Yellow-breasted Bunting - singles on 5th, 13th and 16th Nov
Little Bunting - Up to 7 (on 16th)
There are high numbers of waders present (for Kam Tin). These are feeding in the MDC (especially upstream) and roosting in the West Rail mitigation areas.
