Bob, I do tinker with these regularly and have experimented with curves (!) but I'm always wary of overcooking things. Its not like film which was more WYSIWYG. I need to spend some serious time learning photoshop. Books, I have. Time, I haven't. A project for retirement.

Great shot, Andrew!
I like Bob's adjustment but I'd go a little further.
Hope you don't mind my re-post here ...
What's done: Adjusted mid-tone/contrast using Level, NR bg and toned down, selective sharpened subject, boosted saturation slightly, converted color profile to sRGB for web presentation. That's it!
Thanks KK. Now to me the colours look a bit too rich but it is certainly punchier. The selective sharpening is excellent and I prefer the bg, I just would not saturate as much.

Andrew,
We have to try and persuade KK to run another Photoshop tutorial for the society members. His last one was a full house.
Bob
With your permission this is the best I can achieve, but it is in no way close to KK. Again congratulations on the great shot
Thanks for all the suggestions and reposts. I have done another image for comment at

This is slightly harder as it is part shade part sun but I have tried to make it richer and punchier. Apologies for using the boards for a critique but it is definitely on topic!
