i was strolling in Hong Kong Park today when i saw this skulking bird under the hedges: -
size between a robin and a warbler
very very short tail (almost suggesting none)
brownish upperpart
white lowerpart with a bit of streaks on its chest
dark bill, pale legs
after flipping all over 'the birds of hong kong and south china' as well as 'birds of china', the only plausible conclusion seems to be the lesser shortwing.

one more thing, it has short white eyebrows
