Black-shouldered Kite : 14 August 2008
Two Black-shouldered Kite seen this morning (14th Aug) on Southern Mai Po. At lunchtime one of them was still around at gei wai #23. A couple of weeks back (23rd July) I was lucky enough to watch an individual spend about 30 minutes hunting along the grass edges and bunds in front of Hide #1 (gei wai #16/17). This was about 45 minutes before sunset.

The Ruff was a male coming out of breeding plumage with a white head and neck, with three black feathers on the back of the head and a broad black band on breast.
The other highlight was the already reported Black-shouldered Kite.

A very hot day, but rather rewarding with many waders species. Also a few interesting species around Mai Po. Didn't see the Black-winged Kite, I was probably looking at wrong place as I came out and saw on the black board it was at scrape 23...Also, a possible Black Bittern but didn't get a clear enough view to confirm it.
