De-silting the water channels in Gei wai #12 : Summer 2008
In the last 10-20 years, silt has accumulated on the bottom of the channels inside gei wai #12. As a result, the channels have slowly become more shallow and allowed Reed Grass to invade thus resulting in a loss of open water area needed by waterbirds. In order to re-establish the area of open water, the outer perimeter and interior cross-channels will be de-silted between July and October 2008.
