The first photo actually shows a female Greater Painted-snipe, in first-winter or non-breeding plumage (note the reddish head and neck, and dark green barred wing coverts without pale spots)

Great photos - htese birds are obviously showing relatively well at Long Valley at the moment.

mk2009, these are good shots for recording Greater painted snipe in Long Valley!
John, the painted snipes started to aggregate on a field and the number can up to about a dozen (11-12 individuals).

My birdwatching is not good!

In Fact, The total number of Greater Painted Snipe at that day is 10.
