Dear Society Members,
Over the last 2 months, a number of wooden posts/bamboo sticks have appeared outside several of the Mai Po bird hides (see photo from Hide 1). We have to assume these were placed by bird photographers/watchers in order to attract perching birds close to the hides.
I would like to remind visitors to the Reserve that such practice is not acceptable because it involves entering areas in front of the hides which causes disturbance to birds. These posts are now removed.
If any member of the Society witnesses a person putting up posts please can they report the incident directly to me or another WWF staff member on duty.
We welcome all suggestions on ways to increase opportunities to watch birds or improve the Reserve, no matter how minor. If a perching post or posts at a particular location would help, please let me know. If your request is reasonable a WWF staff will set up the post.
