An excelent day to walk. A full-house outing with 50 participants. Tides are a bit low at board walk, but the Mai Po education center offer an excellent chance for participants to see two species of Spoonbill, two Pintails with satellite transmitter, a Macaw, and Egrets at close distance. Recently there seems to be an oil spilt in the Deep Bay area, we found one Black-headed Gull with heavy old stain from the boardwalk.
also, please add:
White-shouldered Starling x10 - near the entry parking lot
Peregrine Falcon x1 - at the mud flats right when we arrived
a GREAT day; the clearest I have seen it! Author: HFCheung Time: 1/02/2009 21:24
Lost and find:
1. A participant has lost a binocular bag. If anyone found it or saw it left somewhere, please contact HKBWS.
2. A lens cap for Canon AF were found. The owner please contact HKBWS to get it back.

We also saw that Scarlet Macaw 金鋼鸚鵡 standing on the tall tree opposite to the Visitor Centre on 28 January. Is it an escaped bird??? Author: HKBWS Bonnie Time: 2/02/2009 10:16
Note that this is a Red and Green Macaw. Scarlet Macaw would have yellow in the wings.
It is definitely an escape (native to South America but, unfortunately, commonly traded) and has been in the area for several months. Author: mchristine Time: 2/02/2009 13:21
Thank you very much for the advice Author: lsinyin Time: 7/02/2009 12:30
I feel lucky having joined the Mai Po outing with my friends. It was the first time for some of them being there. They like it very much and are going to join the next one. I would like to share some photos captured on that day. Please correct me if the identification is wrong.

Hi,
As seen from the JPGs, are the Eurasian Wigeon and Northern Pintail both tag on their back with radio tracking devices? Are they tag in Hongkong or ??
Interested to know a bit more on tracking projects going now in HK ( or ASIA ).
