would you share the trip information ?
If i want to try, any suggestion ? Author: HKBWS Vicky Time: 4/03/2009 10:27
阿崔,
If you go to Taipei only, I would recommend 台北植物園 where you can see Malayan Night Heron very close to you! I have also seen Black-naped Monarch, Brown Shrike, Black-browed Barbet (五色鳥) and Grey Treepie there during my visit to Taipei last November. It is a park just like Kowloon Park in HK. You don't need to walk long distance to find birds and you can ask birders there and they are very kind to bring you around to look for birds. It is a great place and Taiwan birders are nice too!
Taiwan birders also recommend 烏來 which is a sea-side forrest area. I haven't been there. But they said it is also a good place during migration period. Just like Po Toi, they got a number of rare birds and even "first" there. You can have a try. Author: msamuel Time: 4/03/2009 21:48

One small point/query. I see that the trip list includes Black-headed Ibis Threskiornis melanocephalus. Mark Brazil in "Birds of East Asia" gives this species as a winter visitor to Taiwan, but he also notes that Sacred Ibis Threskiornis aethiopicus has become established as a feral breeder in NW Taiwan with between 300 and 350 birds present. I wonder if your record might refer to Sacred Ibis rather than Black-headed?
It would be interesting to know the current status of melanocephalus in Taiwan. The species used to be a regular winter visitor to Hong Kong in very small numbers, but has become very rare in recent years. (I don't, offhand, know when the last record was.) The species is now a "description bird" - I suppose because of its current rarity, but also because any observer of the species now has to take into account the possibility of Sacred Ibis wandering over to Hong Kong from Taiwan.

Hi David,
According to my memory (I've been told about the status of Sacred Ibis in Taiwan in 2006 or 2007), almost all the "black and white" Ibis in Taiwan esp. Taipei are Sacred Ibis. The population of Sacred Ibis now goes to more than 200 (please correct me if I'm wrong). They still got records of Black-headed Ibis but are regarded as (very) rare bird. This is the best photo I shot. Which ibis is it? Author: lchunfai Time: 6/03/2009 21:17
May it be a black-headed ibis????I can see a red line on the underwing.... Author: ddavid Time: 6/03/2009 23:39
Apparently both Sacred & Black-headed Ibis show a red line on the underwing!! The (very instructive) photo is of Sacred Ibis because of the conspicuous dark line on the rear of the wings - the wings on Black-headed are all white.

Dave
Thank you for your correction. I am equally happy to see either ibis as both are new to me. Unfortunately, both Taiwan Wild Bird Guide and Hong Kong and South China Bird Guide only mention Black-head Ibis without a word about Sacred Ibis.
