Mai Po
14th March, 2009
(Record Shot)
Fairly far away but still can see the followings which indicate an American Wigeon male :
1) White buff forehead
2) Glossy green crescent from eye to nape
3) White wing patch
4) Breast/flanks and back in pinkish brown
Would welcome further comments and suggestions
Thanks Brenda & Aaron for finding it!
Cheers

This bird was seen again today. Much closer than what appears in your photos. Hopefully some more photos will be coming soon.
Being familiar with this bird (I am from the U.S.) . . . I would say that it gives all appearances of being a male American Wigeon. It was with several Eurasian species so the contrast was quite evident. Author: kmike Time: 15/03/2009 20:04
Great to hear this bird was seen well today.
I created a link from BirdForum to these pix and the response was that this looked very like a pure American Wigeon - if so this would be first for Hong Kong if accepted by the Records Committee.
Many thanks to Peter and Michelle for getting and posting these extreme range pix.
Look forward to seeing better pix sinc ethe bird was closer today.
Cheers
Mike
