Dear Birdwatchers/Photographers,
Most of the existing bird-watching hides surrounding gei wai #16/#17 and gei wai #11 were constructed in the mid 1980s and have faired well considering. However many of the galvanized steel foot supports are in need of replacement due to corrosion so this summer repairs will be carried out at hides #1, #3, #5, #7 and #8.
Contractors will work during specified periods when the majority of waders are out feeding on the Deep Bay intertidal mudflat. The maintenance period of each hide varies and depends on the location and number of supports that need to be repaired. Hide #7, the first to be repaired, will be temporarily closed from 24 – 28 August. Further notice of the maintenance period for other hides will be posted in due course.

Repair work at hide #7 completed and it is re-opened for public use. Hide #5 will be temporarily closed from 26 – 28 August and hide #3 closed from 26 August – 2 September. Further notice of the maintenance period for other hides will be posted in due course.

Maintenance of supports of hide #3
Repair work at hide #5 completed and it is re-opened for public use. More supports need to be repaired at Hide #3, maintenance period is extended and the hide will be temporarily closed from 26 August to 11 September. Repair work at hide #3 nearly completed and it will be re-opened for public use on 11 Sep. Hide #1 will be closed temporarily for maintenance between 8 – 11 Sep. Further notice of the maintenance period for other hides will be posted in due course.
