I have previously used a Nikon Spotting Scope RA series for bird watching.
I then wanted to take photos of birds, and hence moved into digiscoping with a new set of scope that supports this requirement.
It might save you money in the long run by considering your future needs now. If you plan to take photos now or in the future, consider a scope that allows attachment to a camera, even though you might not buy the extension tube today. With such extension, you could take photos with a simple DC (e.g. S110) or a mirror less (Nikon V1).
