I'd just like to say I think Forrest and his team have done a great job with this new format. As Forrest says, Rome was not built in a day, and I think we have to bear in mind that there are many issues that need to be deal with, many of which appear to be more significant than user names.
I'd also like to add my support to Mike T's comment that if user names differ from screen names, then the latter should be the real name of the person posting, and not some alias that does not allow people to attribute posts to real individuals. For me, this is most significant when it comes to chasing up records of rare birds.
