Oriental Turtle Dove.

Note the heavy 'scalloping' on the wings and back (feathers with dark centres and pale edging), and the stripey neck patch.

I'm not familiar with the name Rufous Turtle Dove.

I think the official name is now Oriental Turtle Dove but you're right, Rufous Turtle Dove appears in all the older texts.

At the risk of making another enormous public gaffe, this looks more like a immature Spotted Dove to me - I think an Oriental (Rufous) Turtle Dove would be more scalloped on the wings and back and would show some white on the tail tips.

Was it definitely in the company of Orientals?
