I like your 1st shot, maybe you could crop a little tighter to lose some of the overexposured area and fix a little more in Photoshop or what ever softare you use

Geoff,

One of our members KK Hui ran a packed house seminar on Photoshop several years ago, I am sure with a bit of prodding he can be induced to run the seminar again.

As to books, I will check if there are any suitable for birders.
