2007 International Black-faced Spoonbill Census - 19-21 January 2007 黑臉琵鷺
The 2007 International Black-faced Spoonbill Census is conducted on 19-21 January 2007. This census has proven to be an effective tool to provide an annual and comparable figure for assessing this globally endangered waterbird. In 2006 census, a total of 1679 Black-faced Spoonbills were counted and this figure had a 14% increase of the census in 2005.
The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society started coordinated this census since 2003. Over 100 volunteers from many parts of East Asia, such as Japan, Korea, China mainland, Taiwan, Macao, Vietnam and the Philippines surveyed a total of 59 sites in the 2006 census.
The 2007 census in Hong Kong will cover Mai Po and Deep Bay area. Results will be posted in this BBS shortly after the counts.
