One night on Puffin Island (Hornøya Island, Norway)
Under the midnight sun in Norway, we had a chance to visit the easternmost protected wildlife reserve for seabirds on Hornøya Island. This reserve is one of the birding hotspots in Norway and located near Vardø, which is also a popular birding site in Norway. The reserve holds good numbers of Brünnich's Guillemots in addition to Common Guillemot, Atlantic Puffin, Razorbill, Black Guillemot, Black-legged Kittiwake and Shag.

The island is assessable by boat from Port of Vardø.
Even though the island is a protected area, a small part of the reserve is open for public assess with no prior permission required. Visitors, normally not birdwatchers though, can spend a night in the keeper’s house of Vardø Lighthouse on the island with the scientists working there.
It is possbible to enjoy photography under the magic light of midnight sun but we unfortunately missed. Nevertheless, it was still an enjoyable experience there.
