I have prepared lists month by month of potential migrants to Hong Kong for use in a couple of my birding Facebook Groups & for others that may be interested.
The aim is that experienced birders may focus their attention on particular habitats in their quest for sightings, but also for the uneducated like myself to better understand what will be where & when.

I have compiled my very incomplete preliminary lists from my available sources.
In this regard I would appreciate any assistance in knowing any additions I can make to the lists.
I have started with the "JULY" listing as it is a very quiet month & will hopefully bring people into the swing of things as the busier months approach.
(I may try & compile a more detailed format to include habitat in due course)
(There is already a prepared listing for every month available if anybody has an interest & can contact me directly)

I can see it fine.
My comments on the list you have would be:
- Some of the summer visitors are missing. Notably cuckoos, which are harder to find in July but most are still possible (Chestnut-winged, Large Hawk, Hodgson's Hawk and Indian). Striated Heron and Malayan Night Heron could be included.
- Some of the waterbirds you have are fairly unlikely in July. I think there are very few recent July records of Swinhoe's Egret, Black Bittern or Greater Crested Tern. Black Baza, Eurasian Hoopoe and Black-naped Oriole are also now very unusual in July.
- For me the biggest gap here is waders. By the end of July there is usually very strong passage of Common Redshank and Greater Sand Plover, and you can expect to start seeing returning Eurasian Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Terek Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Lesser Sand Plover, Little Ringed Plover, etc. There are probably more that I've forgotten. In most years there are usually a few oversummering individuals of other species as well, especially Grey Plover and Bar-tailed Godwit (similar to the situation with Black-faced Spoonbill). It's probably worth including Black-winged Stilt as well.

Yes is exactly what I am after.
I have simply listed everything as noted in an old version of "Birds of Hong Kong" for every month of the year plus some others sources where I see them mentioned.
Thought that if I put this out, more ppl will start showing some "hidden" sightings after the event, which will lead more seasoned & new birders interested in "potential" visitors to expand their otherwise normal habitat searches in ensuing years......... with the list being expanded for the common good.
Am already posting this in my FB Groups, & whilst there are only a handful of involved birders on Lamma of the 350 members.... with the Group now being just about 9 months old, a sizeable group of non-Lamma birders are joining & taking Lamma more seriously as a birding destination, with the effect that the local community are also getting much more involved.... for example local fishermen etc telling me where birds are around our coast at various times of year.
Is all part of a larger long term project on Lamma.

Thank you once again... will update the July list & post on or around 1st July, & then post in here a "preliminary list" for August a few days later.

I can see the table now.....  don't know what happened before.

As JAA says, many southbound waders are possible in July - in the right habitat.  Greater Sand Plover might be a good possibilty for Lamma.

Looking forward to finding out what turns up !

I think Swinhoe's Egret and Watercock are fairly unlikely in August. Amur Falcon has not been recorded in this month, and Black-headed Munia was an introduced species not a migrant (and is no longer regularly present in HK).

There are a number of shorebird species that will be migrating through August - Green and Wood Sandpipers, Terek Sandpiper, Grey-tailed Tattler, Red-necked Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, etc. There are also a few passerines that should start turning up by the end of the month - there could be the first records of Amur Paradise-flycatcher, Arctic Warbler, Eastern Crowned Warbler, Brown Shrike, Yellow-rumped Flycatcher, Asian Brown Flycatcher, Eastern Yellow Wagtail, Forest Wagtail, Stejneger's Stonechat, etc.

There is now sufficient data in the eBird system that these are starting to look reasonably representative of the seasonality in HK for many species (although some species are still a bit misleading and need more data)
