Records Committee needs a Secretary
The Records Committee is looking for a long-term volunteer who would be willing to carry out administrative work in order to speed up its assessment and processing of records. That person would be responsible for the following tasks:
process records of rarities and circulate them in batches around the RC for assessment by members;
chase up unusual records posted on the website, and encourage photographers or observers to submit a record, or prepare simple submission on their behalf;
process records of non-rarities submitted mainly in Excel, and to maintain in good order this database;
other administrative duties.
Skills required:
good organisational and administrative skills;
familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel; a general ability to work comfortably with computer software an advantage;
an interest in birds (you do not have to be a bird 'expert' for this role)
reasonable level of English;
happy to chase RC members up and encourage them to process records.
Initially, you would work fairly closely with the Records Committee Chairman (me!) until you are familiar with the duties.
I would estimate that, on average, you would need to spare approximately 3 hrs per week. However, there are times when more is required to deal with a number of submissions.
If anybody is interested, please send me a private msg or email me. If you are not known to me personally, please provide a few details such as how much time you can spare, how long you've been birding and any experience you think may be relevant.
Closing date for offers of help: 20th March 2008.
Many thanks,
Geoff
