It is one of three species of the bird of paradise in Australia. It is common in the Atherton Tableland but is very shy bird.

There are some great pictures here - I love Aussie birds! - but there's one mislabeled.

The one marked 'Brown Cuckoo-Dove'is a male Cicadabird Coracina tenuirostris.

I must get down there in their summer/our winter - there are a couple of birds here I didn't get on a July trip a few years back.

Yes! I love the Aussie birds and the habitats too. What are your target birds?

I missed the Southern Cassowary, Noisy Pitta and many Bowerbirds this trip.

Going in July, I was not able to get the Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher (on its 'winter hols'in PNG at the time) or Latham's Snipe (on its 'summer hols' in Japan at the time).

I still need to see Superb Lyrebird too, as well as about 250 other species!
