This is particularly good news in view of the article in Birding Asia (Dec 2009) entitled "Last chance to save". This makes very depressing reading, particularly the contribution of habitat destruction to the inexorable decline in the Spoon-billed sandpiper. Birding Asia comes with membership of the Oriental Bird Club and to plagiarize Bill Oddie, if you are not a member you should have your binoculars confiscated. This issue of BA contains wonderful images by John & Jemi and Michelle and Peter. Visit www.orientalbirdclub.org if you haven't done so before!

It is a good winter record for this drastically declining species.

It also indicates that small number of Spoon-billed Sandpiper could winter along south China coast. Recent observations from me and Ho-fai at Minjiang River estuary area shows that 5-6 birds also stayed there in winter.
