Latest Taiwan Bird List

Chinese Wild Bird Federation has recently revised the bird list of Taiwan and it is now available for downloading:

In this new version, a total of 13 new species are added into the Taiwan Bird List and the total number of species in Taiwan is increased to 589. Of these, ten species are new records for Taiwan, including Pacific Diver, Lesser Crested Tern, Thick-billed Pigeon, Hooded Pitta, 'Ryukyu' Minivet, Bianchi's Warbler, Booted Warbler, Pied Wheather, Chestnut-flanked White-eye and Red-headed Bunting. Three more species are new 'splits' from previously-known subspecies including Tundra Bean Goose Anser serrirostris, Manchurian Bush Warbler Cettia canturians and Sakhalin Grasshoper Warbler Locustella amnicola.

This Taiwan Bird List is following the Clements checklist of birds of the world: Version 6.5 (Clements et al. 2010).

Interestingly, in the context of the recent Hong Kong records, the recent addition of Red-headed Bunting to the Taiwan list seems to relate to a bird found on 8 December 2008.

Grateful if anyone can confirm that and tell us where it was seen within Taiwan.

I found some pictures at:

Hi Mike,

From the head of the post in your link, the bunting was seen at Ilan, northeast Taiwan.
