[Hong Kong] Plain Prinia

Plain Prinia

Is it a Oriental Reed Warbler? I saw at least 3 on the Tam Kon Chau Road towards MP on 2013-05-06

But I think the tail is shorter than Plain Prinia. So I think it is some kind of reed warbler. After looking at the photos in the web, I think it maybe Oriental Reed Warbler, but the size of Oriental Reed Warbler should be larger right? Or is it some baby Plain Prinia or what? Thanks for your reply.

Yes the vestigial gape flange (the skin that juveniles have to make their mouths bigger and thus easier to drop food items into in the nest) indicates this is a bird that has not long ago left the nest..

Definitely Plain Prinia.

Thank you very much for your clear explanation.

Don't be afraid to argue like this.  It is OK to make mistakes.  I still make a lot of them but this is the proper way to learn.

Thanks again for your patient coaching. It really help me to learn much faster in identifying the birds. As I only rely on two books and internet, so I think I still have to border you all in the future in my learning process. Thanks once again.
