Warbler ID

Warbler ID

1 Feb 2011
Po Shan Road
I just managed to get these poor photos of it. Could you please help me to ID this bird. What is it most likely to be?
Size seems to be larger than a Dusky Warbler. No call was heard. Thanks.

Difficult to say for sure but I would guess Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler.  The legs look to pale for Dusky Warbler and the back not green enough for Common Tailorbird.  If you heard any calls, that would be helpful to describe.

Would you consider it as a Pale Thrush?

Where on Po Shan? When were you birding? I'm looking for someone to bird with on Hong Kong Island. I'm near Mount Davis.

It looks like a warbler, and fairly strong-legged. Possibly a Manchurian (Japanese) Bush Warbler? Do you have any pictures showing more of the head pattern, because the angle is really difficult for ID on this photo.

Thanks to all for your help. Sorry that I have no more photos of the bird because of the dense vegetation. I think it is not a Pale Thrush, Dusky Warbler or Common Tailor Bird. Yes, I agree it might be a Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler or Manchurian Bush Warbler. Does it fit Radde's Warbler or Yellow-streaked Warbler?

To Russcath, I think you have already found the Po Shan Road birding directory from other thread of this forum. The bird was found on the slope by the Po Shan Road near a monitoring station in the afternoon (the lowest section of Po Shan Road on the Brendan's birding map).

I don't think the color tone is right for either Radde's or Yellow-streaked Warbler.  I think it one of the Bush Warblers.  I would like to add it to my list for Po Shan Road (since I have yet to see any bush warblers there) but I am afraid the pictures aren't conclusive enough.
