A nice adult Red throated Pipit.There is great overlap between the extent of pinkish-red shown on the face between males and females, this makes differentiation between the sexes only possible in the hand.In general, the birds with more red extending well into the chest are more likely to be males.
Few other pipits (Water and Rosy)ever have any pink on the face.The heavily streaked underparts, large black neck patch, and the white tram line on the back (just visible at this angle)makes this a classic adult Red throated.
