North-east New Territories
A very productive day in the north-east New Territories, visiting Wu Kau Tang, Sam A Tsuen, Lai Chi Wo, Mui Tsz Lam, Kuk Po and Luk Keng.
Highlights were:
Grey Bushchat - female at Wu Kau Tang
Pygmy Wren Babbler - 1 heard at Wu Kau Tang
Russet Bush Warbler - 1 at Wu Kau Tang
Rufous-tailed Robin - 1 at Ha Miu Tin, 1 at Sam A Tsuen
Tristram's Bunting - (at least) 8 at Ha Miu Tin, 2 at Sam A Tsuen
White-bellied Erpornis (Yuhina) - 1 at Ha Miu Tin
Goodson's Leaf Warbler - 1 near Sam A Tsuen
Chestnut Bunting - 2 at Sam A Tsuen
Black-winged Cuckoo-shrike - 1 at Sam A Tsuen
Verditer Flycatcher - 1 at Sam A Tsuen
Black Bulbul - 4 at Sam A Tsuen, 3 at Lai Chi Wo
Oriental Greenfinch - (at least) 2 at Lai Chi Wo, 10 at Kuk Po
Pacific Reef Egret - 1 near Kuk Po
Black-capped Kingfisher - 1 at Kuk Po
Black-naped Monarch - 1 heard at Kuk Po
Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler - 8
Asian Stubtail Warbler - 12
Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush - 26
Pallas's Leaf Warbler - 21
Grey-backed Thrush - 25
Common Blackbird - 9
Scaly Thrush - 2
Red-flanked Bluetail - 4
Daurian Redstart - 11
Grey Treepie - 2 heard
As well as the usual white-eyes (there seems to be huge numbers of these in HK at the moment), bulbuls, sunbirds, flowerpeckers, etc.
And as if all that wasn't enough, also a Hong Kong Newt near Wu Kau Tang and a Wild Boar at Mui Tsz Lam (seen twice)
Overall, it was one of those days when good birds were around every corner, reminding me how much fun birding can be!
