今年初趁機去了斯里蘭卡一趟拍鳥，十多日的拍鳥行程在時間上算是頗為充裕，走訪了幾個國家公園和拍鳥熱點；全斯里蘭卡保守估計有25種特有鳥種，在今次行程中，可以說差不多當地所有特有鳥種我們都有看到，以下是其中有相片記錄的22種:

I will ask HKBWS to help our members to have more information to travel abroad.  So we will start collecting information from those who have travelled lately.  Basically we want information on site, arrangement, and tour guide service etc.  I hope members would support, by helping each other.

Support Chairman's idea.  It is definitely a goods news for those like me who would also like to go elsewhere for birdwatching along with vacation.  Apart from other information, I personally would be most interested to know the following:
- how to get there by public transport as far as possible
- where to stay safely and comfortably at a budget price

The birds in Sri-lanka look tame and obliging. The situation is not so for the birds of
the Philippines, at least for the birds around Subic Bay, but quite the opposite, I daresay.

Mike, the chairman of the only birdwatching society of the country, told me that wild birds
of his country have been caught or trapped for their cage-bird value or meat for years. Poverty
and ignorance, I believe, have a lot to do with it!

If birds in Galapagos can be rated as 1 for their tameness and birds in HK as 10, I would probably rate birds in Sri Lanka as 3 to 5, depending on the locations and species.  I think the predominantly Buddhist tradition of Sri Lanka people become a respect to wildlife which become more approachable in return.  I'm sure you will have a totally different birding experience in Sri Lanka.

I hope it is not too late to conclude my trip to Sri Lanka now.  Just before our next birding trip, we are glad that the trip report has been completed and can be found in the following link. It is remarked that this is not a typical birding trip report, which you can find elsewhere from the web. However, we wish it can be still useful to those who plan to visit this beautiful country for birding or at least can share our joy of birding there.
