Do Chinese Pond Herons come in different sizes?

While watching for seabirds early Thursday morning I spotted three Pond Herons approaching from Dangan Island.

Two were normal but one was noticeably smaller than the other two and had a less extensive breeding plumage. I took some photos - here






The birds were together so this is not just a result of perspective.
