Nikon P5100 for digiscoping
I bought the new Nikon P5100 yesterday, hoping that it would be a bit faster than the P5000. It's not. It takes the same adapter as it's the same body and lens with 12.1 megs. It starts to slow down after about 3 frames as it processes the 12.1 meg files . The images look good and the noise is ok up to iso 400. Here is a sample from this morning. Neil

Hi Neil,
Exif data showed that the first one (wide view) was taken by using Ricoh. Did you mixe it up?

Robert,
Did you check the Exif on the second photo? The first photo is just a reference to show the distance. I usually use a second camera for this as I had the Swarovski DCA adapter on the P5100 on the scope.

Neil,
I finally got one after seeing your post.
:
It is certainly another great dc after the Fuji F31. The speed and noise control win 8400. However, it is still difficult to beat my faithful 8400 in picture quality.

Bob,
No, I don't think it can be. It will be my backup dc for some situation when longer focal length is required as it has a 26.3mmm long zoom. The PQ is not as good as 8400, it lacks some details. I like the RAW in 8400.

Wing,
This is an excellent image. There are a lot of good digicams out there now that can take good images if there is a good adapter for them. All we need now is good light.
I found with the P5100 that near full camera zoom it's best to use manual focus as the camera's AF has trouble in the hazy light.
I did some tests this morning with the Nikon CP4500, Canon A640 and the P5100. I'll post some results later.
Neil.

Neil,
Nice shots. The oldie 4500 is very reliable and showed rich details in the photo (the first one, I think).

Robert,
Thanks. You're right. The 4500 image is the first one. I think I ran Auto Color through the Canon A640 image (second ) which is why the color looks a little different. Neil.
