Dear Fai Gor,

We know it was called Pink-tailed Bunting but according to taxonomic notes of OBI, "Generic position evaluated by Groth (2000) as among rosefinches rather than buntings." Please let us what is the updated status of this bird. Thx

I am just an inexperienced birder/ birdwatcher/ twitcher/ photographer with no long lens.

PWMK,

I think the total number of species seen is only 103, not 203!

Qinghai Trip

Peter and Michelle -

Great photos, both birds and scenery !

I think that Fai Gor means that your "Meadow Bunting" is Godlewski's Bunting.

I'm sure this is just a typing slip - "Black-browed Tit" should be "WHITE-browed Tit" which is a tougher bird to find, anyway.

Must have been a great trip.

Hi John, welcome back home.  Thanks very much for the corrections.
As you can see, the High Altitude Syndrome has affected my mind .....

I love the first picture of the cuckoo. It looks like the Pipit was fed up with the constant demand for food and trying to strangle the chick! In fact, many of the birds look a bit worn at the end of the breeding season.

With reference to the taxonomy of the Pink-tailed Rosefinch/Bunting, this is really complicated and it seems that it isn't a rosefinch or a bunting, but is in a family of it's own (Urocynchramidae). IOC list the species as Przevalski's Finch.

Thanks John.

We did feel sorry for the Richard's Pipit, the cuckoo kept calling out loud even it was fed many times. Such hard work for a small size parent with XXXLarge chick !!
Most of the birds we saw were rather tatty, it would have been better to visit Qinghai in June/July.

Thanks for the updates of the Przevalski's Finch, very interesting.

Cheers
