Dear participants of the Borneo International Birding Race

I unfortunately could not go to the seminar/talk that took place today.

I should be thankful if the questions that follow would be answered.

1) How will I know about the next race, through the Society?

2) How many teams are allowed for HK?

3) Must I get enrolled through the Society?

4) Do team members need to contribute towards the costs of racing days?

5) Where can I learn about the race of 2013?

Thanks a lot for any anwers. Contact means are welcome by PM.

Dear Mr Tai

Almost all your questions were answered well during the indoor meeting last night.  A brief summary was made as follows:

The 1st International Borneo Bird Race was organized by Borneo Bird Club, Borneo Tourism Board & Brunei Tourism Board for the first time, with objectives in:
•      Promoting Borneo tourism,
•      Promoting awareness of wildlife & bird conservation
•      Network building of bird societies in the area (Asia in particular for 2013).

Entrance to this BBR was by invitation to certain recognized bird organisations only. So the enrollment was not open to public.  This year, each invited society can send ONE team of 3 members.  As we know, there were 2 organizations invited for HK area including HKBWS but the other one did not join.

Regarding costs contribution, similar to practice of other bird fairs held before, all local costs in Borneo during race days were covered by the Organizer. In addition for this race in particular, an international return ticket for 1 participant was covered, with the rest of costs shouldered & shared by team members.

This year, the Society decided to send a staff team with a view in, firstly exploring and learning how the race was arranged, and secondly as an incentive and training program to our staff (who participated in the race at their own costs and own holidays).

After the race, all participants would undertake an unwritten duty in helping to promote the above mentioned objectives in their own area.  This was why the indoor meeting last night & write-up in coming Bulletin were planned.

We are not sure if similar race will be organized in future, or the arrangement will be similar to this year. We will know more details when we are being invited next year.

For other information you requested, please refer to the following reply.

Dear Bonnie

Thank you for the society's open answers.

It seems that simply a few people of the inner circle of the society are laying down their own criteria -the purpose in this case are for observation for similar projects and acitivities. Does HK tourism need the assistance of the society to coordinate such acitivities?
I think the society has one of the longest history among similar orgainizations of the world in activities combining race with conservation and is certainly in a position to help the race in question to improve.

Next invitation I think would be through the society again but with others criteria, probably in favour of memebers who are now serving in a non-paid executive memembers.

I wonder if the socity would kindly reveal the name of the 'other local organization' which was invited.

Thanks

S L Tai
