Ornate Sunbird
We live in a village house and our birding “Roof List” is quite long. Our “Balcony List”, however, is more exclusive. A couple of days ago we were visited by an Ornate Sunbird (Cinnyris ornatus) which, reacting to its own reflection in a window, spent a few minutes on the balcony rail.
HK’s first Category 1 record of this species was as recent as 2016, when it was called “Olive-backed Sunbird” (Nectarinia jugularis).
Whatever it’s called - now or in the future - seeing this bird was a pleasant surprise.
