6/9/08 Long Valley Highlights 塱原黃昏鳥況

Greetings all.
Did a little bit of post-rain dusk birding in Long Valley tonight.  Not a whole lot of activity, however, highlights were:
  * 3 Pintail Snipe
  * 2 Black-Winged Stilts (down from 13 the other day, though)
  * 1 Asian Barred Owlet!  A lifer for me, so I was pretty thrilled.

Good birding.

I don't know there is Asian Barred Owlet in Long Valley

Thanks for your sharing.

I have only seen an owl one other time in Long Valley- a Collared Scops Owl resting in a canopy at dawn.  The owl I saw this time was definitely an Asian Barred Owlet, though.
  It was perched on a telephone wire near an old house and a small treeline, which it flew into once I startled it.  Hopefully I'll see it again next time I go out there.

A short walk in Long valley today:

Black-wing Stlits: >28
Snipe sp: >15
...and a Quail sp, probably Japanese (brown in colour with light stripes on the back).
