This is the only male I've seen with a pin tail so far. I was told that we don't normally see males with pin tails at Mai Po. This one was in front of Hide 6 today. Why don't we normally see males with pin tails? Neil. MPNR Hong Kong,China. 20/12/05 Nikon D2x plus Nikon 80-400 VR zoom lens

We do see males with "pin" tails, Neil. Perhaps what the person you were talking to meant was we don't usually see them before Christmas, though I'm not sure that's really true either. What is true is that in East Asia, ducks come out of eclipse plumage (dull 'summer' plumage) way later (approx. three months later?) than in Europe. Mike Turnbull
