After several days of easterly winds Long Valley was very good this afternoon between 4:45 and 6:45 Hobby: 2 Black-winged Stilt : 1 Swintail Snipe : 30 Common Snipe : 8 Painted Snipe : 2 Daurian Starling: at least 50 (only for 10 minutes) Black-necked Starling : 140 Wryneck : 1 Black-winged Cuckoo-shrike 1 Plaintive Cuckoo: 1 Dusky Warbler : 1 Oriental Reed Warbler: 3 Lanceolated Warbler: 1 Black Drongo : 5 Collared Crow: 2 All the birds were in the area around the lotus ponds and the marsh to the west. I also saw a numer of common species and migrants in cluding 180 Little Egret flying over high up, Common and Wood Sandpiper, 3 Stonechat and Yellow Wagtail, several White-breasted Waterhen, Chinese Pond Heron, Night Heron, Great and Cattle Egret and White-throated Kingfisher. Also today there was a Grey-headed Lapwing at Lok Ma Chau Village, and 7 very approachable Whiskered Terns on the Mai Po Access Road fishponds (we drove to within 10 meteres of birds perched on wires.
