Mike K. et al.,

Speaking personally, I fully agree that Mountain Bush Warbler is a much finer sounding English name for Cettia fortipes than the horribly limply descriptive "Brownish-flanked Bush Warbler", but the latter is the English name used in Carey et al. 2001, whereas Red-flanked Bluetail is in fact still referred to "officially" as Red-flanked Bluetail.

My plea on English vernacular names is simply for the universal use of those in the latest edition of the checklist, the aim simply being the reduction of confusion and the avoidance  of the need to add in scientific names.

Hi Mike

I understand your point but  some of these names are too dreadful for words!

To avoid confusion i wil try to give correct names as an alternative but I would dearly love to see someof the old names returned - fashions change so often that I have a fair chance of success give or take 20 or 30 years of bloodymindedness.

It could have ben worse  - I could have gone for Strong -footed Bush Warbler!
