Greater White-fronted Goose at MPNR

A Greater White-fronted Goose flew into MPNR at 14:30 this afternoon (Thursday 19th January). It is currently settled in Pond 23 on the islands at the back.
Although not confirmed, it is probably the same one that has been wintering in the Lok Ma Chau area.

Relict Gull : 24th January 2006

There was a single 1st winter Relict Gull outside the WWF floating bird-watching hide at 14:15 today (24th January 2006). The bird was with several Black-headed Gulls on the exposed mudflat. I would be interested if any birdwatcher resights the bird for further verification.

Greater White-fronted Goose

The Greater White-fronted Goose was seen again on Pond 24g at 13:50 today (Thursday 26th January). Hopefully it will stay around for the CNY break.

Relict Gull : 27th January 2006

Two Relict Gulls were seen today between 16:00 and 17:00 from the mudflat area outside the HKBWS floating bird-watching hide.

Also at or near Mai Po today and yesterday were:
Dalmatian Pelican - 2
Baikal Teal - 2 females (pond 20)
Ferruginous Duck - 3 (pond 20)
Imperial Eagle - 2 ad (pond 20)
Spotted Eagle - 1 ad
Brown-headed Gull - 1 (Boardwalk)
Kamchatka Gull - 1 (Boardwalk)
Buff-bellied Pipit - 28 (new high count) Lin Barn Tsuen
Water Pipit - 1 (second HK record) Lin Barn Tsuen
The Relict Gulls represent the fourth and fifth records for Hong Kong, and are the first since 1993. They can be told apart because one is much more heavily streaked on the neck and its plumage is much more worn than the the second bird.
also there was a female Grey Bushchat in the Mong Tseng Hills and 52 Greater Scaup off Tsim Bei Tsui (on the sea opposite the turn-off to Mong Tseng Village.
