I have walked this path twice recently and only seen an Asian Barred Owlet. Can anyone tell me where to find the Painted Snipe, Dusky Thrush and Common Rosefinch?
Thanks.

On the southern side of the nullah (Shui Lau Tin), there is a section of path on unpaved road.  On Saturday, the common rosefinch were on the western end of this (ie closest to Kam Tin).
The painted-snipe are in a wet area (waste from the pig farm) in agricultural land at the eastern end (they are usually standing under the fallen dead tree - be quiet to avoid distubing them!) and the dusky thrush is in an area of wet agriculture directly across the nullah from the snipe (several of the fields have black shade-cloth)

Hi, Graham.

Would you mind also sending me the location map?  I would be grateful as I would love to see most of the birds on the list.  And also the likely location to find the Asian Barred Owlet too.  Many thanks.

Graham -

I would also appreciate a map - or more directions. I thought I knew this area but I'm not sure where John is referring to above - unless he is referring to the eastern end of the nullah where the road stops and a dirt track continues past a house and garden. I haven't explored past the second house you come to.

You need to keep going along the dirt track that runs along the nullah until you see a bridge across it to the left.  Cross this bridge and turn right to find   some flields covered with black plastic. turn right along the path and the Dusky Thrushes have been seen in the tree and fields to the left of the path.

To find the Painted Snip pool recross the bridge and turn left (or go straight on along the same path as before if you did not cross the bridge). You will come to a dead end road sourrounded by railings which is a little higher than the level of the path.

On the right just before the road are some tall dead bushes with a small path passing underneath them.  This brings you to the end of the stinky pond. Approach slowly as the Painted Snipe often hide very close to this corner.

You can also follow the path around the pond, which also attracts starlings and Wood Sandpipers. A male Japanese Thrush and Brown Shrike have also been seen in the same area
